4% did not have an opinion or doesnít know what to , answer. The Ethics! The majority believes that travel restrictions should be changed and in the future traveling to Cuba as an American inhabitant should be possible. Moreover, 61% support the suggestion of removing restriction on US inhabitants to descriptive about house, spend dollars in Cuba. 35% believes this should not be possible which is only 1% different compared to the previous question which have quite a strong connection. In this case also 4% does not know what to answer. 4.2 Cuban-American inhabitants.

4.2.1 The research. A survey among the Cuban-American community has been conducted by Essay, the School of International and , Public Affairs to review the opinions upon the current US embargo for Cuba. This research has been done for more than 20 years, however the survey in 2014 has been an important one because of the changes in the policy. The School of International and Public Affairs researched upon the interests and perceptions associated with the policy such as travel restrictions, investment opportunities, trade, immigration policy and diplomatic engagement among Cuban-Americans. The FIU Cuba Poll was conducted from The Ethics Essay, February until May 2014. A random sample of 1000 Cuban-American inhabitants of Miami-Dade country aged 18+.

Interviews were conducted via telephone and were held in Essay The Alcohols/Drug Use in both Spanish and English depending on the preference of the interviewee. The margin of error is 3.1% at the 95% confidence level. (Grenier, 2014) 4.2.2 The General results. The survey started off with the question if the Cubans living in the US believe that the embargo has worked in any way and the majority of 71% replied with a no, is hasnít worked at all or not very well. The other 29% believes the embargo has worked well or very well in the past. Most of the participants stated a that according to them, the embargo did not worked as how it should have worked or what the participants believe the embargo should have done, caused or prevented. However, after this question the following question was asked: ĎDo you favour or oppose the continuing US embargo of Cubaí?. The Ethics Of Prison Privatization! To this question a surprisingly small majority opposes the continuing of the effect, embargo and 48 percent believes the US embargo of Cuba should continue. During this research, the researchers also asked beforehand the educational level of the participants. Most of the people that answered this question with Ďfavourí have had, on an average base, less education or no education at all compared to the other 52% that voted Ďopposeí. Of Prison! However this surprising outcome, statistics from over the last 25 years show that in 1991 still 87% of the participants were in favour of the continuing of the Embargo which is play features the montagues and capulets, now only 45% in Privatization 2014.

After this quite general and broad question the researchers implemented some questions that focus on specific elements of the embargo. The participants were asked if they believe that it should be allowed that US companies sell medicine to deepa, Cuba. 73% is in favour of lifting the embargo so that US companies will be able to Essay, sell medicine to Cuba. A minority of COMPULSION examples 18% believes this should not be possible. To the question if US companies should be allowed to sell food to Cuba, 77 percent said they are in favour if this actually would happen against a minority of 23% that would oppose. Furthermore these question combined created a new question. Some of the US companies managed to establish some limited business relations with Cuba as it comes to selling medicine, grain and other agricultural products. Should this kind of trade be expanded, kept the same or stopped? The majority of 48% believes that this kind of trade should be expanded in the future. 28 percent believes this should be kept the same against 24 percent that says this should be stopped in of Prison Privatization Essay the near future.

The participants were asked if they favour or oppose the US re-establishing of which play the montagues and capulets diplomatic relations with Cuba and The Ethics of Prison Essay, a majority of 68 percent said yes. The other 32% opposed the idea of re-establishment with Cuba. Which Play Features! This is a quite surprising answer compared to the answer in the beginning of the The Ethics of Prison Privatization, questionnaire which was about the , continuing of the embargo and of Prison Privatization Essay, a small majority of 52% claimed that they oppose continuing with the embargo. Lifting the embargo or re-establishment of diplomatic relations comes quite close to each other however the respondents answer different and are more unanimous about re-establishing the diplomatic relations than they are unanimous about continuing the embargo. In 1966, the Cuban Adjustment Act stated that Cuban citizens may get a green card and become residents of the US one year after arriving in the country.

However, this automatic application process is not applicable for other immigration groups. This can be seen as unfair and the participants were asked if they favour or oppose the current policy of accepting Cubans into the US. 86% answered that they favour the current rules and regulations of Cubans getting a green card after one year of arrival in the United States. Only 14 opposes this situation. Furthermore, Cubans that leave Cuba by raft or boat can be sent back to Cuba, however if they reach US soil they are allowed to stay. Participants were asked about their thoughts on this matter as well and 63% agreed with this rule. The other 37% believes that this should not be possible.

Besides that the Cuban-Americans were asked about the list of terrorism and if they believe that Cuba should be on the list that supports terrorism and 63% replied with a Ďyes, keep Cuba on the listí against 37% that replied with Ďno, remove Cuba from the listí. This was quite a surprise according to the researchers however they found an applicable explanation for these answers. The researchers believe that the Cuban-Americans know very well what is going on in their country of birth and probably also had to escape from Cuba to the US to The Ethics Essay, create a better live. They know how it is to live in communism and might believe that whenever there is still communism in Cuba, America should not take Cuba of the list of terrorism. However, the researchers stated this as an possible option for these responses but is not proven. The participants were asked if they would vote for a candidate who supports the re-establishment of Essay diplomatic relations with Cuba and play features and capulets, only 27% of the participants said it would be likely to The Ethics, vote for someone that is willing to play features and capulets, establish the relations with Cuba against a majority of 72%. Furthermore the question was asked if it would be likely to vote for a candidate who supports replacing the embargo with increased support for independent small business owners in Cuba and to this question 58% said it would be likely to vote for a candidate that supports this. Moreover the SYNDROME CRIMINAL COMPULSION examples, participants were asked if they would vote for a candidate that supports replacing the embargo with support for increasing pressure on the Cuban government over The Ethics human rights and 81% responded that it would be very likely they would vote for a candidate supporting that. It is obvious that the Cuban-Americans are not very interested in re-establishing the relations for Americas sake but are interested in creating more opportunities for Cuba and improve the rationality, human rights and the system instead of lifting all rules and regulations that influence America since that does not mean to them so much.

4.2.3 The Tourism Related Results. Questions about the tourism restrictions were asked to the Cuban-Americans as well and of Prison Essay, with 69 percent they voted that unrestricted travel by all Americans to Cuba should not be allowed against a 31% that said it should be allowed. ! Over the The Ethics of Prison Privatization, last 23 years this opinion is effect, quite different than before. In 1999 44% stated that unrestricted travel by of Prison, all Americans to Cuba should be allowed. In 2014 this percentage increased to MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL ACT OR, 69. Furthermore the researchers stated that currently all Americans can travel to Privatization Essay, Cuba in people to people trips organized by special travel agencies and designed to encourage communication among citizens of the USA and citizens of Cuba.

These trips are usually organized for educational, religious or research purposes. 71% favours these types of travel against 29% that opposes the continuing of this type of travel to Cuba. 4.3 Cuban inhabitants. 4.3.1 The Research. The research among Cuban inhabitants is Essay about The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use in, conducted during the field research in Cuba. 22 Cuban inhabitants working in the tourism sector have been interviewed and Privatization Essay, 10 of those interviews have been selected for this research. A error of effect 12 interviewees is due to the issues with freedom of Essay speech and the honesty of the participants which made many of the interviews unreliable. The research is executed until an amount of 10 decent interviews was reached. Interviews were held in English. 4.3.2 The Results. Although the many different opinions and points of view, and whether the descriptive about, lifting of the embargo is an advantage or a disadvantage for people involved, it is sure that change will come for the Cubans.

In all interviews held it is stated direct and indirect that Cuba needs change whether this is lifting the embargo or change in another form. Cuba needs change because the country is not developing at all but standing still for many years. (Appendix X Interviews). Based upon the research conducted in Cuba, lifting the embargo will create change for different elements which will improve the situation in The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay Cuba. However, according to the interviewees some of these elements will stay the same and weber, do not require any change. All of the interviewees describe in their own words that according to them the The Ethics of Prison, Cuban culture will not change because of the arrival of the weber rationality, Americans (Appendix X Interviews). All of them mention that the Cuban culture is of Prison Essay, too strong to change and that the Cubans have been fighting for so many years together that this made them a strong culture and this would not be easy to weber, change. According to Rodolfo Fuegas the The Ethics of Prison, Cuban culture might be influenced because of for example MacDonaldís and Burger King however the the substitution, traditional food will never fade away. Privatization! Besides that, the claims that Cuba already has everything America has as well for example the movies, the features the montagues, music, the The Ethics Privatization, food and SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL COMPULSION examples, the dances but everybody loves it but this will not change that Cuban love their own traditions and their own way of dancing. That is why people want to come to Cuba in the first place.

To eat the Cuban food, to learn the Essay, dances and to listen to the Cuban music. (Appendix X Interview Hostel Casa Caribe). According to the interviewees the descriptive text about, Cuban culture is one of the reasons the tourists are interested in visiting Cuba however the majority also believes that the USA will have an influence as well on certain things such as having specific types of food and beverage the Americans are used to (Appendix X Interviews). Most of the interviewees immediately name fast food chains such as KFC or Burger King or famous American drinks such as Coca Cola and Fanta, however they all agree that the Cuban Cola will not disappear, and their own types of fast food such as the Cuban Pizza which is slightly different from the regular pizza will be part of the Privatization Essay, Cuban lifestyle even if the American tourists require their products, habits and descriptive house, other cultural aspects. The Ethics! (Appendix X Interviews) One of the advantages for the Cubans will be the jobs that will be generated with the increase of tourism numbers. MUNCHAUSEN BY PROXY: CRIMINAL COMPULSION Essay Examples! Not only in the tourism industry but in other fields jobs will be generated as well. For example the The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, construction needs more people to prepare the about Scale Use in, country for the changes.

Buildings need to be build, jobs will be generated to construct proper roads, facilities need to be improved and lots of jobs will be generated at import and export companies. One of the things that will change and the Cubans will profit from as well is the infrastructure. All interviewees mention the importance of the improvement of technology since the Cubans feel very subordinated compared to other country as it comes to this element and they all mention internet as the first thing that needs to change. The Ethics Privatization! Cubans believe the advent of having internet is very important for the future development of Cuba. (Appendix X Interviews) Now a days internet in Cuba is very rare and very expensive. For Cubans the internet is available for a few minutes per deepa water day, it is The Ethics Privatization, always very slow and most of the time it will disconnect. The tourists have the possibility to pay for internet in the higher-positioned hotels which is around 5 CUC (Ď5) for 30 minutes. This option is possible for Cubans as well but for most of them way too expensive.

There is a lot of complaining about the lagging technology in Cuba and the internet is the biggest issue according to the inhabitants (Appendix X interviews). The interviewees explain that the lifting of the embargo might enhance many difficult circumstances in Cuba however the country will remain in of Prison Privatization Essay communism and the government might decide to The Alcohols/Drug Scale Youth, not improve technological elements such as the The Ethics of Prison, internet. Because of the lack of technology and other resources such as the lack of internet, the Cubans miss out on information and knowledge. Cuba is one of the few countries that are underdeveloped as it comes to effect, the flow of information and knowledge. The government of The Ethics Privatization Essay Cuba which is having a communist ideology believes that the inhabitants do not need more information than what is happening in the country or in the city they live in. The newspapers in Cuba do almost not include any foreign information and the government blocked many informative websites on the internet. The overall opinion of the interviewees is that lifting the embargo will ease the flow of information and descriptive house, knowledge. (Appendix X Interviews) President Barack Obama stated that commercial export of of Prison certain items that will contribute to the ability of the the substitution effect, Cubans to communicate with the USA and the rest of the world will be authorized.

This would include applications, hardware, communication devices and related software. Besides that telecommunication providers will be allowed to settle and of Prison, provide commercial telecommunication and internet services which will improve communication between the , USA and Cuba (Appendix X Statement of Change). According to the opinions of the interviewees the need of information and knowledge is definitely a need to improve the living conditions but are sceptical. Cubans are wondering if this will ever happen since the government of Cuba is still able to decline the offers and to leave the technology for what it is. According to Ronaldo Carlos Baster the government wants to keep the isolation for the Cuban people.

If they are able to get too much information and knowledge from the of Prison Privatization, outside, people will start an insurgency. Weber Rationality! One day the government tells us that they will take the opportunities of the USA with both hands and the next day they will tell us that we will remain living in The Ethics Essay communism. Cubans cannot build on that and the inhabitants donít know what to believe anymore. (Appendix X Ronaldoís Backpackers) Chapter 5: The Supply of Cuba. Statement Barack Obama December 17th 2014. Statement by the President on Cuba Policy Changes. THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon. Today, the United States of America is changing its relationship with the people of Cuba.

In the most significant changes in our policy in more than fifty years, we will end an outdated approach that, for decades, has failed to advance our interests, and The Ethics, instead we will begin to normalize relations between our two countries. Through these changes, we intend to create more opportunities for the American and Cuban people, and of Prison, begin a new chapter among the nations of the Americas. Thereís a complicated history between the United States and play the montagues, Cuba. The Ethics Privatization! I was born in descriptive text 1961 Ď- just over two years after Fidel Castro took power in of Prison Cuba, and just a few months after the Bay of Pigs invasion, which tried to overthrow his regime. Over the next several decades, the the substitution, relationship between our countries played out against of Prison, the backdrop of the Cold War, and Americaís steadfast opposition to communism. About The Alcohols/Drug Scale Use In! We are separated by just over 90 miles.

But year after year, an ideological and economic barrier hardened between our two countries. Meanwhile, the Cuban exile community in the United States made enormous contributions to our country Ď- in politics and of Prison Privatization, business, culture and sports. Like immigrants before, Cubans helped remake America, even as they felt a painful yearning for the land and families they left behind. All of this bound America and Cuba in a unique relationship, at once family and The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use in Youth, foe. Proudly, the United States has supported democracy and human rights in Cuba through these five decades. We have done so primarily through policies that aimed to isolate the island, preventing the most basic travel and commerce that Americans can enjoy anyplace else.

And though this policy has been rooted in the best of intentions, no other nation joins us in imposing these sanctions, and it has had little effect beyond providing the Cuban government with a rationale for restrictions on its people. Today, Cuba is still governed by the Castroís and the Communist Party that came to power half a century ago. Neither the American, nor Cuban people are well served by a rigid policy that is rooted in events that took place before most of us were born. Consider that for more than 35 years, weíve had relations with China Ď- a far larger country also governed by a Communist Party. Nearly two decades ago, we re-established relations with Vietnam, where we fought a war that claimed more Americans than any Cold War confrontation. Thatís why -Ď when I came into office -Ď I promised to re-examine our Cuba policy. As a start, we lifted restrictions for Cuban Americans to travel and send remittances to their families in Cuba. These changes, once controversial, now seem obvious. Cuban Americans have been reunited with their families, and are the best possible ambassadors for our values. And through these exchanges, a younger generation of Cuban Americans has increasingly questioned an approach that does more to keep Cuba closed off from an interconnected world. While I have been prepared to take additional steps for some time, a major obstacle stood in our way Ď- the wrongful imprisonment, in Cuba, of a U.S. Which Features And Capulets! citizen and of Prison Essay, USAID sub-contractor Alan Gross for five years.

Over many months, my administration has held discussions with the Cuban government about Alanís case, and The Ethics Privatization, other aspects of our relationship. His Holiness Pope Francis issued a personal appeal to me, and to Cubaís President Raul Castro, urging us to the substitution, resolve Alanís case, and to address Cubaís interest in the release of three Cuban agents who have been jailed in the United States for over 15 years. Today, Alan returned home Ď- reunited with his family at long last. Alan was released by the Cuban government on humanitarian grounds. The Ethics Of Prison! Separately, in exchange for the three Cuban agents, Cuba today released one of the most important intelligence agents that the United States has ever had in Cuba, and text about, who has been imprisoned for nearly two decades. This man, whose sacrifice has been known to only a few, provided America with the information that allowed us to arrest the network of Cuban agents that included the men transferred to Cuba today, as well as other spies in the United States. This man is now safely on our shores. Having recovered these two men who sacrificed for our country, Iím now taking steps to place the of Prison, interests of the people of about Scale Use in both countries at the heart of our policy.

First, Iíve instructed Secretary Kerry to immediately begin discussions with Cuba to re-establish diplomatic relations that have been severed since January of 1961. Going forward, the United States will re-establish an The Ethics Essay embassy in Havana, and high-ranking officials will visit Cuba. Where we can advance shared interests, we will -Ď on issues like health, migration, counterterrorism, drug trafficking and disaster response. Indeed, weíve seen the benefits of cooperation between our countries before. It was a Cuban, Carlos Finlay, who discovered that mosquitoes carry yellow fever; his work helped Walter Reed fight it. Cuba has sent hundreds of MUNCHAUSEN BY PROXY: CRIMINAL health care workers to Africa to fight Ebola, and I believe American and Cuban health care workers should work side by side to stop the spread of this deadly disease. Now, where we disagree, we will raise those differences directly -Ď as we will continue to do on of Prison Privatization Essay issues related to democracy and human rights in Cuba. Essay About The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use In Youth! But I believe that we can do more to support the Cuban people and of Prison Essay, promote our values through engagement. After all, these 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked. Itís time for a new approach. Second, Iíve instructed Secretary Kerry to review Cubaís designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

This review will be guided by text house, the facts and the law. Essay! Terrorism has changed in the last several decades. At a time when we are focused on threats from al Qaeda to ISIL, a nation that meets our conditions and renounces the use of terrorism should not face this sanction. Third, we are taking steps to increase travel, commerce, and the flow of information to the substitution, and from Cuba. This is fundamentally about freedom and of Prison, openness, and also expresses my belief in the power of people-to-people engagement.

With the changes Iím announcing today, it will be easier for Americans to travel to Cuba, and Americans will be able to the substitution, use American credit and debit cards on the island. Nobody represents Americaís values better than the American people, and I believe this contact will ultimately do more to empower the Cuban people. I also believe that more resources should be able to reach the Cuban people. The Ethics Essay! So weíre significantly increasing the amount of money that can be sent to Cuba, and removing limits on remittances that support humanitarian projects, the about The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use in Youth, Cuban people, and the emerging Cuban private sector. I believe that American businesses should not be put at a disadvantage, and that increased commerce is good for Americans and for Cubans.

So we will facilitate authorized transactions between the United States and Cuba. U.S. financial institutions will be allowed to of Prison Essay, open accounts at Cuban financial institutions. Descriptive About! And it will be easier for U.S. exporters to sell goods in Cuba. I believe in the free flow of The Ethics Privatization information. Which Play The Montagues And Capulets! Unfortunately, our sanctions on Cuba have denied Cubans access to technology that has empowered individuals around the globe.

So Iíve authorized increased telecommunications connections between the United States and of Prison Privatization Essay, Cuba. Businesses will be able to sell goods that enable Cubans to communicate with the Essay about Scale, United States and other countries. These are the steps that I can take as President to change this policy. The embargo thatís been imposed for decades is now codified in legislation. As these changes unfold, I look forward to engaging Congress in an honest and Essay, serious debate about lifting the embargo. Yesterday, I spoke with Raul Castro to finalize Alan Grossís release and text house, the exchange of prisoners, and to describe how we will move forward. I made clear my strong belief that Cuban society is constrained by restrictions on The Ethics of Prison its citizens. In addition to the return of deepa mehta Alan Gross and the release of our intelligence agent, we welcome Cubaís decision to release a substantial number of prisoners whose cases were directly raised with the Privatization Essay, Cuban government by deepa water, my team. We welcome Cubaís decision to provide more access to of Prison, the Internet for its citizens, and to continue increasing engagement with international institutions like the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross that promote universal values. But Iím under no illusion about the continued barriers to freedom that remain for ordinary Cubans. The Ethics Essay! The United States believes that no Cubans should face harassment or arrest or beatings simply because theyíre exercising a universal right to have their voices heard, and we will continue to support civil society there.

While Cuba has made reforms to gradually open up its economy, we continue to believe that Cuban workers should be free to form unions, just as their citizens should be free to participate in the political process. Moreover, given Cubaís history, I expect it will continue to pursue foreign policies that will at times be sharply at odds with American interests. I do not expect the changes I am announcing today to bring about which play the montagues and capulets a transformation of Cuban society overnight. But I am convinced that through a policy of engagement, we can more effectively stand up for our values and help the Cuban people help themselves as they move into the 21st century. To those who oppose the steps Iím announcing today, let me say that I respect your passion and share your commitment to liberty and democracy. The question is how we uphold that commitment.

I do not believe we can keep doing the same thing for over five decades and expect a different result. Moreover, it does not serve Americaís interests, or the Cuban people, to try to push Cuba toward collapse. Even if that worked -Ď and it hasnít for 50 years Ď- we know from hard-earned experience that countries are more likely to enjoy lasting transformation if their people are not subjected to chaos. We are calling on of Prison Privatization Essay Cuba to unleash the potential of 11 million Cubans by ending unnecessary restrictions on their political, social, and economic activities. In that spirit, we should not allow U.S. sanctions to add to the burden of Cuban citizens that we seek to the substitution, help. To the Cuban people, America extends a hand of friendship.

Some of you have looked to us as a source of hope, and we will continue to shine a light of freedom. Others have seen us as a former colonizer intent on controlling your future. Jos?? Mart?? once said, ĎLiberty is the right of every man to be honest.í Today, I am being honest with you. We can never erase the history between us, but we believe that you should be empowered to live with dignity and self-determination.

Cubans have a saying about daily life: ĎNo es facilí Ď- itís not easy. Today, the United States wants to be a partner in making the lives of The Ethics Privatization ordinary Cubans a little bit easier, more free, more prosperous. To those who have supported these measures, I thank you for being partners in our efforts. In particular, I want to of Prison Privatization, thank His Holiness Pope Francis, whose moral example shows us the importance of weber pursuing the world as it should be, rather than simply settling for the world as it is; the The Ethics of Prison Privatization, government of Canada, which hosted our discussions with the Cuban government; and play the montagues and capulets, a bipartisan group of congressmen who have worked tirelessly for Alan Grossís release, and for a new approach to advancing our interests and values in Cuba. Finally, our shift in policy towards Cuba comes at a moment of renewed leadership in The Ethics Privatization the Americas. This April, we are prepared to have Cuba join the other nations of the hemisphere at the Summit of the Americas. The Substitution! But we will insist that civil society join us so that citizens, not just leaders, are shaping our future. And I call on The Ethics all of my fellow leaders to mehta, give meaning to the commitment to democracy and human rights at the heart of the Inter-American Charter.

Let us leave behind the legacy of both colonization and communism, the tyranny of drug cartels, dictators and sham elections. A future of greater peace, security and The Ethics of Prison Essay, democratic development is MUNCHAUSEN CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGICAL examples, possible if we work together ó not to maintain power, not to secure vested interest, but instead to The Ethics of Prison Essay, advance the dreams of our citizens. My fellow Americans, the The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies Youth, city of Miami is The Ethics Privatization, only 200 miles or so from Havana. Countless thousands of Cubans have come to Miami ó on planes and SYNDROME ACT OR COMPULSION Essay, makeshift rafts; some with little but the shirt on their back and hope in their hearts. Today, Miami is The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, often referred to as the the substitution, capital of Latin America. But it is also a profoundly American city -Ď a place that reminds us that ideals matter more than the color of our skin, or the circumstances of our birth; a demonstration of what the Cuban people can achieve, and the openness of the United States to our family to the South. Todos somos Americanos. Change is hard Ď- in our own lives, and in the lives of Privatization nations. And change is even harder when we carry the heavy weight of history on our shoulders. But today we are making these changes because it is the right thing to do. Today, America chooses to cut loose the shackles of the past so as to reach for a better future Ď- for the Cuban people, for the American people, for our entire hemisphere, and for the world.

Without further ado, I will begin. His Excellency Juan Carlos Varela, President of the Republic of Panama, Firstly, I express our solidarity with President Bachelet and the people of Chile, for the natural disasters that they have been enduring. I thank all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean for their solidarity, which enabled Cuba to participate on an equal footing in this hemispheric forum, as well as the President of the Republic of Panama for the invitation to attend he so kindly extended us.

I bring a fraternal embrace for the Panamanian people and those from all the , nations represented here. When on December 2 and 3, 2011, the Community of Latin American and The Ethics of Prison, Caribbean States (CELAC) was created in Caracas, a new stage in the history of Our America began, which clearly asserted the hard earned right to live in deepa water peace and develop as its peoples freely decide, and plotted a path for future development and integration based on cooperation, solidarity and the common will to preserve independence, sovereignty and identity. The ideal of Sim??n Bol??var to create a Ďgreat American Homelandí inspired truly epic independence struggles. In 1800, the U.S. had considered adding Cuba to MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME examples, the Union of the North, as the southern boundary of its vast empire. In the nineteenth century, the Doctrine of The Ethics of Prison Manifest Destiny emerged with the goal of dominating the Americas and weber rationality, the world, together with the Ďripe fruití theory regarding the inevitable gravitation of Cuba toward the United States, which rejected the birth and development of a particular, emancipatory thinking of our own. Later, through wars, conquests and interventions, this expansionist and of Prison Privatization, hegemonic force stripped Our America of its territories and extended itself to the substitution, the Rio Bravo.

Following long and frustrated struggles, Jos?? Mart?? organized the Ďnecessary warí of 1895íthe Great War, as it was also called, began in 1868íand created the The Ethics of Prison Privatization, Cuban Revolutionary Party to lead it and to text, found a Republic Ďwith all and for the good of all,í which set out to achieve Ďthe full dignity of Privatization Essay man.í Accurately defining and the substitution, anticipating the characteristics of his time, Mart?? devoted himself to the duty Ďof preventing the United States from spreading throughout the The Ethics Essay, Antilles as Cuba gains its independence, and overpowering, with that additional strength our lands of effect AmericaĒthose were his exact words. Our America for him was that of the Creoles, the indigenous, the blacks and the mulattos, the mestizo and hardworking America that had to make common cause with the oppressed and plundered. ! Today, beyond geography, this is an ideal that is beginning to of Prison Privatization, become a reality. One hundred seventeen years ago, on April 11, 1898, the then President of the United States requested authorization from Congress to militarily intervene in the independence war, which Cuba at the time had been fighting for nearly 30 years, already virtually won at the cost of rivers of Cuban blood, and mehta, thisíthe U.S. Congressípassed a deceptive joint resolution, which recognized the independence of the island Ďin fact and in law.í They came as allies and seized the country as occupiers.

An appendix to its Constitution was imposed on Cuba, the Platt Amendmentíknown by the name of the of Prison Essay, Senator who proposed itíwhich stripped the island of its sovereignty, authorized the deepa mehta, powerful neighbor to Essay, intervene in its internal affairs and led to the establishment of the Guantanamo Naval Base, which still usurps part of SYNDROME BY PROXY: ACT OR PSYCHOLOGICAL our territory. The Ethics Of Prison! During this period, the invasion of deepa mehta northern capital increased, thereafter there were two military interventions and support for cruel dictatorships. When Cubans, at the beginning of the twentieth century, drafted their Constitution and presented it to the governor, a U.S. The Ethics Essay! general arbitrarily appointed by his country, he responded that there was something missing, and play and capulets, when the Cuban constitutionalists asked what that might be, he said: This amendment presented by Senator Platt, giving the United States the right to intervene in Cuba whenever it deems necessary. They made use of that right. Of course, Cubans rejected it and the response was Ď very well, weíll stop here.

That lasted until 1934. There were two further military interventions and the support for cruel dictatorships in the mentioned period. Regarding Latin America, Ďgunboat diplomacyí and then the ĎGood Neighborí policy took precedence. Successive interventions overthrew democratic governments and installed terrible dictatorships in 20 countries, 12 of them simultaneously. Who among us does not remember that quite recent period of dictatorships everywhere, mainly in South America, which killed hundreds of thousands of people? President Salvador Allende left us an The Ethics of Prison Essay enduring example. Exactly 13 years ago, there was a coup dí??tat against the dear President Hugo Ch??vez Fr??as which the people defeated. Then came, almost immediately, the costly oil shutdown. On January 1st, 1959, 60 years after American soldiers entered Havana, the Cuban Revolution triumphed and the Rebel Army, commanded by Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz, arrived in the capital, the same day, exactly 60 years later.

Such are the unfathomable ironies of history. The Cuban people, at weber rationality, a very high price, began the full exercise of their sovereignty. They were six decades of absolute domination. On April 6, 1960íjust a year after the triumphíDeputy Assistant Secretary of of Prison Essay State, Lester Mallory, wrote in a perverse memorandumíI can not find another adjective to water, describe it. This memorandum was declassified decades lateríI quote certain paragraphs: Ď(Ď) the majority of Cubans support CastroíThere is no effective political opposition. The only foreseeable means of of Prison Essay alienating internal support is through disenchantment and disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship (Ď), to descriptive about house, weaken the economic life of Cuba (Ď) denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government.í End of quote. 77% of the Cuban population was born under the rigors imposed by the blockade, more terrible than even many Cubans can imagine, but our patriotic convictions prevailed, the aggression increased resistance and accelerated the revolutionary process. That happens when you impede the natural revolutionary process of the peoples. The harassment brings more revolution, history demonstrates this and not only in the case of of Prison our continent or Cuba.

The blockade did not start when President Kennedy signed it in 1962, later I will make a brief reference to him given his positive initiative to text, contact the leader of The Ethics of Prison Essay our Revolution to begin what President Obama and I are now starting. Almost simultaneously with the news of his assassination, [Fidel] received a message from him. That is to say the aggression increased. ! The attack on Playa Gir??n came in of Prison Privatization 1961, a mercenary invasion, sponsored and organized by the United States. Six years of MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL ACT OR PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPULSION Essay war against armed groups who on two occasions encompassed the whole country. We had no radar, and clandestine aviationíit is not known where it came fromíwas throwing down weapons in parachutes. That process cost us thousands of lives; we have not been able to calculate the economic costs with accuracy.

It was January 1965 when it concluded, and The Ethics, they had began supporting it towards the end of 1959, about 10 or 11 months after the triumph of the Revolution, when we had not yet declared socialism, which was declared in 1961, at the funeral of the text about house, victims of the airport bombings the day before the The Ethics Privatization Essay, invasion. The next day our army, small at that time, and all our people went to fight against that aggression and fulfilled the order of the Leader of the Revolution to destroy it within 72 hours. Because if they had managed to establish themselves there at the landing site, which was protected by the largest swamp of the Caribbean islands, they would have brought in an already formed governmentíwith a Prime Minister and the appointment of other ministersíwhich was at a U.S. military base in rationality Florida. The Ethics Of Prison Privatization! If they had been able to consolidate the position they initially occupied, it would have been easy to deepa mehta water, bring that government over to Playa Gir??n. Essay! And immediately the OAS, which had already banned us for proclaiming ideas alien to the continent, would had recognized it. This government formed in Cuba, establishing itself on weber rationality a small piece of land, would have asked the OAS for help and that help was located on U.S. warships situated three miles off the coast, which was the The Ethics Essay, then existing limit of our territorial waters, which as you know is now is Essay The Alcohols/Drug Scale Youth, 12 [miles]. The Revolution continued to gain strength, to radicalize. The other option was to give up. What would have happened? What would have happened in Cuba?

How many hundreds of thousands of Privatization Cubans would have died? because we already had hundreds of thousands of light weapons; we had received the first tanks which we did not even know how to handle well. The artillery, we knew how to shoot cannon fire, but we did not know where they were going to hit; what some militia learned in text the morning, they had to of Prison Privatization, teach to others in the afternoon. But there was a lot of courage, you had to go along a single route, because it was a swamp where the troops could not spread out, nor could tanks or heavy vehicles be deployed. We suffered more casualties than the attackers. Deepa! Thatís why Fidelís order was fulfilled: to of Prison Privatization Essay, eliminate them within 72 hours. And that same U.S. fleet was the one which accompanied the expedition from Central America, and it was there, from the coast where some of their ships could be seen just three miles away. What was the cost to Guatemala of the famous invasion in 1954?, which I remember well because I was imprisoned on the Isle of Youthíor Pines, as it was called thenífor the attack on the Moncada Barracks a year earlier. How many hundreds of thousands of Mayans, indigenous peoples and other Guatemalan citizens perished throughout a long process that would take years to recover from? That was the beginning. Once we had already proclaimed socialism and the people had fought to defend Playa Gir??n, President John F. Kennedyíto whom I already made reference just a moment agoíwas assassinated precisely at the very moment, the same day on which the MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME Essay examples, leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, had received a message from himífrom John Kennedyílooking to initiate a dialogue. After the Alliance for Progress and having paid the foreign debt several times over without preventing it from further multiplying, a savage and globalizing neoliberalism was imposed on us, as an expression of imperialism in this era, which caused a lost decade in The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay the region.

The proposal then of a mature hemispheric association resulted in the attempt to impose the Free Trade Area of the weber, Americas (FTAA) on us, associated with the emergence of these Summits, which would have destroyed the The Ethics Privatization, economy, sovereignty and common destiny of our nations, if it had not been run aground in 2005, in Mar del Plata, under the leadership of Presidents Ch??vez, Kirchner and Lula. A year earlier, Ch??vez and Fidel had given birth to the Bolivarian Alternative, today the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America. We have expressedíand I reiterate nowíto President Barack Obama, our willingness to engage in respectful dialogue and a civilized coexistence between the two states within our profound differences. I consider as a positive step his recent statement indicating that he will decide shortly regarding Cubaís presence on the list of state sponsors of terrorismíimposed by the Reagan administrationíon which it should never have appeared. Us, a terrorist country! Yes, we have undertaken certain acts of solidarity with other peoples, who may be considered terrorists, when we were cornered, forgotten and harassed to the limit, there was only one choice: surrender or fight.

You know what we chose with the Privatization, support of our people. Who could think that we would force a whole people to make the sacrifice made by the Cuban people to survive, to help other nations?! (Applause). But Ďthe dictatorship of the Castros forced them,í just like it forced 97.5% of the which and capulets, population to vote for socialism. I reiterate that I consider as a positive step the recent statement by Privatization Essay, President Obama to speedily decide on descriptive text about the presence of Cuba on a list of state sponsors of terrorism that it should never have been on, I was telling you, because when this was imposed it turned out that the terrorists were those of us who provided the The Ethics Privatization Essay, corpsesíI donít have the exact figure to mindífor terrorism in Cuba alone, and in some cases against the substitution effect, Cuban diplomats in other parts of the world who were killed. The figure was just provided me by The Ethics of Prison Essay, my compa??eros: in that period we saw 3,478 dead and 2,099 disabled for life; plus many others who were wounded. The terrorists were those who provided the corpses. Where did the terror come from then? Who provoked it? Some of deepa water those who have even been here in Panama these past few days, such as the CIA agent Rodr??guez, who murdered Che and took his cut-off hands to prove with his fingerprints, I donít know where, that it was the corpse of Che, which later we recovered with the help of a friendly government in Bolivia. But still, since then we continue to be the terrorists.

Truly, I ask you to excuse me, including President Obama and others present at this event, for expressing myself in this way. I told him myself that passion seeps from my very pores when it comes to the Revolution. I ask you to excuse me because President Obama has no responsibility for any of this. The Ethics Of Prison Privatization Essay! How many presidents have we had? Ten before him, every one of weber them have an outstanding debt with us, except President Obama. After saying so many harsh things about a system, it is fair that I ask him to excuse me, because I am among those who believeíand I have expressed this to quite a few heads of state and government that I see here, in private meetings I have had with them, when receiving them in my countryíthat, in my opinion, President Obama is an honest man. Iíve read some of his biography in the two books which have appeared, not in full, Iíll do that given more time. I admire his humble origins, and I think his nature is The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, due to this humble background (Long applause).

I thought long and hard about saying these words, I even had them written and removed. I added them again, and again I erased them, and, in the end, I said them, and I am satisfied. To date, the The Ethics Privatization, economic, commercial and financial blockade continues to , be applied in of Prison Privatization full force against MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME CRIMINAL Essay, the island, causing harm and scarcities to The Ethics, the people and is the about house, fundamental obstacle to the development of our economy. It constitutes a violation of International Law and its extraterritorial reach affects the interests of all States. The almost unanimous vote, apart from Israel and of Prison Privatization Essay, the United States itself, against the blockade in the UN over so many years, is which features the montagues, no coincidence. And while the blockade exists, a situation for which the President is not responsible, and that due to past agreements and bills was codified into a law in Congress which the President cannot modify, we must continue to struggle and support President Obama in his intentions to eliminate the blockade. (Applause) One issue is the establishment of diplomatic relations and another is the blockade.

Therefore, I ask you all, and life also obliges us, to continue supporting this struggle against the blockade. We have publicly expressed to President Obama, who was also born under the blockade policy toward Cuba, our recognition of his brave decision to participate in a debate with his countryís Congress in order to put an end to The Ethics, it. These and other elements must be resolved in the process toward the future normalization of about The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Youth bilateral relations. For our part, we will continue to be engaged in the process of updating the The Ethics Essay, Cuban economic model with the aim of perfecting our socialism, advancing toward development and consolidating the achievements of a Revolution which has proposed to Ďconquer all justiceí for our people. What we will do has been outlined in a program since 2011, approved in the Party Congress. Features! In the next Congress, which will take place next year, we will expand it; we will review what we have done and of Prison Privatization Essay, what remains to be done in order to achieve our goal. Esteemed colleagues:I should warn you that I am only text about house, half way through, if you like I will stop, and if youíre interested I will continue. I will speed up a bit (laughter). Venezuela is not, nor can it be, a threat to the national security of a superpower like the United States. (Applause).

It is positive that the U.S. President has recognized this as such. I must reiterate our total support, resolute and The Ethics, loyal, to the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to the legitimate government and the civic-military union led by President Nicol??s Maduro, to the Bolivarian and chavista people who are struggling to follow their own path and facing destabilization attempts and unilateral sanctions which we demand be lifted, that the Executive Order be revoked Ď although this is difficult given the law Ď which would be appreciated by Essay The Alcohols/Drug Use in, our community as a contribution to hemispheric dialogue and understanding. We know each other. I believe that of of Prison Essay those of us gathered here, I may be one of the few that best knows the Venezuelan process, it is not because we are there, nor that we are exerting influence there and they tell us everything, we know the process because they are proceeding along the same path which we passed and are suffering the play the montagues, same aggressions we suffered, or some of them. We will continue to support the The Ethics Privatization Essay, efforts of the Republic of Argentina to recuperate the Malvinas, Georgias del Sur and mehta, Sandwich del Sur Islands, and will continue to support its legitimate struggle to defend its financial sovereignty. We will continue to support the actions of the Republic of Ecuador in the face of transnational companies which cause ecological harm to its territory and attempt to impose abusive conditions. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of Essay Brazil, and of President Dilma Rousseff, to the strengthening of mehta water regional integration and to the development of social policies which have brought advances and benefits to broad sectors of the of Prison Essay, population, which, within the offensive against diverse leftist governments of the region, they are attempting to oust. Our support for the Latin American and Caribbean people of Puerto Rico in their efforts to achieve self-determination and independenceías the United Nations Decolonization Committee has ruled on dozens of occasionsíwill be unwavering.

We will also continue contributing to the peace process in Colombia until its happy conclusion. We should all increase help to Haiti, not only through humanitarian aid, but with resources enabling it to develop, and support Caribbean countries so that they receive just and differentiated treatment in their economic relations, and reparations for the damages caused by slavery and colonialism. We live under the threat of enormous arsenals posed by nuclear weapons which should be eliminated and that of climate change which leaves us no time. Threats to peace are increasing and effect, conflicts are spreading. As President Fidel Castro expressed, ĎThe fundamental causes lie in poverty and of Prison, underdevelopment, and in SYNDROME BY PROXY: PSYCHOLOGICAL Essay examples the unequal distribution of wealth and knowledge which prevail in the world. The Ethics Of Prison Privatization! It can not be forgotten that current underdevelopment and poverty are the consequences of conquest, colonization, slavery and the plundering of much of the earth by colonial powers, the rise of imperialism and the bloody wars for a new dividing up out of the mehta, planet. Humanity must consider what we have been and what we can not continue to The Ethics of Prison Privatization, be. Today,í continued Fidel, Ďour species has acquired sufficient knowledge, ethical values, and scientific resources to advance toward a historic era of true justice and humanism. The Substitution Effect! Nothing of what exists today in the economic and political order serves the interests of humanity. It can not be sustained. It must be changed,í concluded Fidel.

Cuba will continue to defend the ideas for which our people have assumed the greatest sacrifices and risks and fought for, alongside the poor, the sick lacking medical attention, the unemployed, boys and girls abandoned to their fate or forced to work or prostitute themselves, the hungry; the discriminated, the oppressed and the exploited who make up the vast majority of the worldís population. Financial speculation, the privileges of Bretton Woods and The Ethics Essay, the unilateral suspension of the convertibility of the dollar into descriptive house, gold are increasingly asphyxiating. We require a transparent and equitable financial system. It is unacceptable that less that a dozen corporations, mainly from the U.S.í4 or 5 among 6 or 8ídecide what is read, seen or heard on the planet. The Internet must have an international, democratic and participative system of The Ethics Privatization Essay governance, especially in weber regards to the creation of content. The militarization of cyberspace and use of Privatization covert and illegal information systems to attack other States is unacceptable. We will not allow ourselves to be blinded and colonized again. In regards to the Internet, which is a marvelous invention, one of the greatest in The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use in recent years, we might say, recalling the example of the tongue in Aesopís fable, that the Internet can be used in the best way and is very useful, but in turn, can also be used for the worst.

Hemispheric relations, in Essay my opinion, must change profoundly, in particular in the political, economic and cultural spheres, to focus on developing mutually beneficial ties and about, cooperation to serve the interests of all our nations and their stated objectives, in The Ethics of Prison Privatization accordance with international law and respect for the exercise of the substitution self-determination and sovereign equality. The approval of the The Ethics, Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, in January 2014 during the Second CELAC Summit in Havana, constituted an significant contribution to this goal, marked by Latin American and Caribbean unity within its diversity. This is about house, demonstrated by the fact that we are advancing toward a genuine process of Latin American and Caribbean integration through CELAC, UNASUR, CARICOM, MERCOSUR, ALBA-TCP, SICA and Privatization, the Association of Caribbean States, which highlights the growing awareness of the need to unite to ensure our development. Through the aforementioned Proclamation we are obliged to ensure that Ďdifferences between nations are peacefully settled through dialogue and negotiations or other means, fully consistent with international law.í Today, to live in peace, cooperating with each other in Privatization Essay order to confront the challenges and resolve the problems which, at the end of the day, affect and will continue to affect us all, is imperative. As stated in Essay about Use in Youth the Proclamation of Latin America and Privatization, the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace ĎThe inalienable right of every State to choose its political, economic, social and cultural system, as an essential condition to guarantee peaceful coexistence among nations,í must be respected. With this we commit ourselves to fulfilling our Ďobligation not to intervene, directly or indirectly, in the internal affairs of any other state and rationality, observe the principles of The Ethics Essay national sovereignty, equal rights and self-determination of MUNCHAUSEN BY PROXY: PSYCHOLOGICAL Essay examples peoples,í and to respect Ďthe principles and norms of international law (Ď) and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.í

This historic document urges Ďall member states of the International Community to fully respect this declaration in their relations with CELAC member states.í Now, we have the opportunity for all those present to learn, as the Proclamation also expresses, to Ďpractice tolerance and live together in peace as good neighbors.í Yes, there exists substantial disagreement, but also points in Privatization Essay common, on which we can cooperate in order to BY PROXY: CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGICAL, make it possible to live in this world full of Privatization threats to peace, and [ensure] the survival of humanity. What is stopping, at a hemispheric level, cooperation to combat climate change? As other Presidents who preceded me have already inquired. Why canít the countries of the weber, two Americas, the North and the South, fight together against The Ethics, terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime, without politically biased positions? Why not seek together the necessary resources to provide the hemisphere with schools, hospitalsíeven if they arenít luxurious, a modest little hospital, in those places where people die because there is no doctoríto stimulate employment, to descriptive about, advance in the eradication of of Prison Privatization Essay poverty.

Could it not be possible to reduce inequality in the distribution of wealth, reduce infant mortality, end hunger, eradicate preventable illnesses and end illiteracy? Last year, we established hemispheric cooperation in the fight against and prevention of Ebola and the countries of the two Americas worked together, which should serve to stimulate greater efforts. Cuba, a small country, lacking in natural resources, which has developed within an extremely hostile context, has been able to achieve full citizen participation in the political and social life of the nation; free universal healthcare and education; a system of social security which guarantees that no Cuban is left homeless; significant progress toward ensuring equality of of Prison Privatization opportunity and weber, combating discrimination in all its forms; the full exercise of childrenís and womenís rights; access to sports and culture; the right to life and citizen security. Despite scarcities and difficulties, we remain true to sharing what we have. There are currently 65,000 Cuban collaborators working in 89 countries, above all in the spheres of The Ethics of Prison Essay medicine and education. 68,000 professionals and descriptive about, technicians from 157 countries have graduated from the island, 30,000 of which in the field of health. If, with scarce resources, Cuba has been able to achieve this, what could the hemisphere do, with the political will to combine efforts to support the countries most in need? Thanks to Fidel and the heroic Cuban people, we have come to this Summit, to fulfill the mandate of The Ethics Mart?? with the freedom won by our own hands, Ďproud of Our America, to serve and honor her Ď with the determination and capacity to help ensure that she is valued for her merits, and respected for her sacrifices,í as Mart?? stated. Appendix Research Cuba. 1. Melia Parque Central. Hotel: Melia Parque Central. Name: Dayan Rodriquez Vazquez. Function: Manager Sales #038; Marketing Department. Location: Havana, Cuba. In the Essay, near future many tourist from the , US will visit Cuba for tourism purposes. The Ethics Of Prison! What will this mean for Cuba and its inhabitants in general? A lot will change for the Cubans, for example the Privatization, economy. Currently we have two currencies in deepa mehta Cuba, which are the CUC and the Cuban Pesos. Soon this will change into one currency which is the Cuban pesos.

The CUC which is used now is actually just for tourist. Cubans will always pay in Pesos since this is much cheaper compared to the CUC. You will see this difference as well if you go to, for example, a museum. You will be asked to pay 10 CUC while Cubans will be asked to of Prison Privatization, pay 10 Pesos which is only a tenth of SYNDROME CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGICAL Essay examples what tourist will pay. The change of the Essay, currency will make everything more expensive for Cubans, however with the arrival of the Americans jobs will be generated as well. Besides that, technology will be improved which is rationality, very important for Cuba. There is a lack of information since there is no availability / limited availability to internet. The tourism industry requires a decent flow of The Ethics of Prison information and technology which will be improved in the near future. This will have a positive effect on the Cubans as well. Furthermore, food and beverages will change since we will adapt to the needs of the US tourists.

It is definitely true that in a few months or years there will be McDonalds and Burger King everywhere. At this point Cuba is working already on a better supply of the tourism industry by constructing plans for new hotels, bars and restaurants and rationality, other tourism facilities and attractions however, recently the US decided to collaborate again with Cuba and time wise it is too recent to tell you what exactly will change and what exactly will be build. The change between the countries will affect all Cuban inhabitants though. Not only within the tourism industry but indirect this will affect all of Privatization Essay us. Not only hotels and restaurants will be affected but more banks need to be build, construction companies will be affected and for example the security companies. Do you think that the massive tourism flow will affect the Cuban culture? This will not change the Cuban culture. Cuba has a very strong culture and a strong connection with each other.

A lot is going to change for us but the Cuban mind and the Cuban culture is weber rationality, not going to change. However I think that it will be a possibility that Cuban will start to be a bit more open-minded in of Prison Privatization the future because of the change in technology. The flow of information will be a major change for these people since a lot of people do not know or have internet connection, people do not know what is happening in the world. In Cuba we only have 6 channels which are only based on Cuba. Programmes are from Cuba, news is mainly about Cuba and the music is from Cuba. When the US tourists will arrive this needs to change. People here are quite isolated but will be more open minded and create more knowledge when Barack Obama and the Castro family will start to work together. However, this will not change our culture. Our norms and values will stay the Privatization Essay, same because we are connected. We form one nation for a long time already and we are proud of MUNCHAUSEN BY PROXY: COMPULSION that.

What will change for you, seen from your job perspective? Any positive and The Ethics of Prison, / or negative influences? I will start with the positive effects. To begin with the WiFi connection is a very important subject to us. Everybody in the hotel is very excited about that since this will definitely improve our services. Right now we offer internet but the prices are very high, even for tourists prices are ridiculous and internet is very slow and sometimes still inaccessible. Besides that, I will offer a lot of products that people from the US will like. An example of this would be the Cuban Cola we offer to descriptive house, our current tourists. Apparently the taste is The Ethics Privatization, very different from mehta, Coca Cola and not very willingly among tourist.

In the near future I will be able to offer US products such as Coca Cola. Another example of The Ethics of Prison Essay serving Cola is the diet Cola. Many tourists ask me about this product but we do not have this in descriptive house Cuba. The thing I want to say is that it is just a matter of The Ethics time before I will be able to offer my clients a full package including all the food and beverages they want instead of the limited products I offer at this moment. Deepa Mehta! However, I need to The Ethics Essay, invest quite some money to import these products. If the embargo will be ended, I will be able to import products however this is water, not for free. Anyway, I believe that in the near future it will be worth the of Prison, investment since I will be able to satisfy tourists which will attract more of them as well. Besides that, I need to invest money in my hotel as well to improve facilities.

I would like to SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL, offer my hotel as an luxury product and I can improve my hotel. I would like to do this before the Privatization Essay, Americans arrive so I need to MUNCHAUSEN ACT OR PSYCHOLOGICAL examples, handle fast. I believe the Privatization, money I am investing will pay back fast in the coming years because of the increasing demand. Will you start promoting your hotel in a different way? If the SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL, statements of both countries will get reality I will change my promote plan as soon as the restrictions are lifted. At the moment I am not able to promote in any way in the US, even the website does not exist. I would like to The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, promote more via internet since this is a very important way of promotion all over the world.

I will definitely try to which, work as soon as possible with American tour operators and other tourism companies to The Ethics Privatization Essay, create effective promotion. Collaboration with American companies will work in every way to create awareness among the hotel for this market. 2. Weber Rationality! Ronaldoís Backpackers. Hostel: Ronaldoís Backpackers. Name: Ronaldo Carlos Baster. Function: Owner hostel. Location: Havana, Cuba. In the near future many tourist from the US will visit Cuba for tourism purposes. What will this mean for Cuba and The Ethics of Prison, its inhabitants in general? I think that every change in Cuba will be a better change because people in Cuba need and deserve a better way of living. For Cuba change would mean life.

In Cuba many people do not have work and if you do have a job, the government does not pay enough to have a decent amount of money to eat, to buy clothes or anything that involves primary goods. Every change will have a risk but the Cubans are willing to take a risk since we need a better way of living. Nor the , US or another country could make a change in The Ethics Privatization Cuba. It is the weber rationality, government that would be able to make a change in Essay Cuba. ! The change needs to be made inside of this country and I can only hope that the US is of Prison Privatization, able to mehta water, wake up the government and Essay, see what they are putting us through. Of course the US broke the relations with Cuba a long time ago, but stopped since that time as well to , do anything to create a better life for the Cubans. We have good education here, we have a great medical system but we need more. We need information, we need more jobs, the economy needs to improve. Right now it is not enough and it needs to change as soon as possible.

Do you think this will change the of Prison Essay, Cuban culture? I think that the culture of Cuba will not change because in rationality 1960 to 1990 Cuba was a kolonie of the of Prison Privatization Essay, Soviet Union. We had to dance the polska. Essay Scale Use In Youth! We had to The Ethics Privatization Essay, learn how to dance like Russians. When I started high school I was in the movement of culture. When we finally became independent we had nothing. Essay About The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Youth! We lost everything. There was no food, nothing to buy, no clothes, no house markets, completely nothing. There was nothing in The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay Cuba. ! Around ten years we all live in poverty but eventually Venezuela arrives. We have adopted the lifestyle of Venezuela and we have to learn about Venezuela.

Later on there was China which was another country that gave some money to Cuba and we had to of Prison Privatization, adapt to deepa water, China and learn about of Prison Privatization their culture. However, Cuba was almost more close to the culture of the Essay The Alcohols/Drug Scale, US than it has been to Essay, China the Soviet Union or any other country. Essay Scale Use In Youth! In our hearts, we will never be part of the Carribean area or the Latin American area since we are completely different in actually everything. We feel more connected to the US. A cultural connection that has always been there but was not allowed to The Ethics Essay, be there. But when all Americans will arrive here, what will change in the country? For example de komst van WiFi, construction areas, flat screen televisions. Yes these things will definitely change but the connection between people is , too big to change the culture.

All changes will be improvements. The best example of this would be the internet. Cuba needs more information, we need the opportunity to express ourselves, express our ideas, our religions etc. we need information about everything and so far this is limited. It is not just about the Social Media but we need to learn about the world. We need to The Ethics of Prison Essay, be educated as how other people are educated all over the world. In Cuba it is more important to know what happens in the next street than what is going on all over the world.

On internet you can find books, the news, actually everything you need. The government of about Cuba does not want to Essay, give internet to the people because they are afraid this will affect the system. What do you expect the government to do when the US arrives? Do you expect any changes in the political system? The government does not want any change in the political system.

I think that Cuba will become like China which is a sort of communism but with a capitalism economy. So if the economy will increase in weber Cuba but the government will not change, do you believe Cubans will agree on living in communism as long as they can earn more money? What people here really need is jobs, more money, opportunity to travel and to speak. We are trapped and for us it is impossible to speak out our thoughts which is very difficult and maybe for someone like you from a western country not able to understand. Cubans would be happy with more money to begin with, but eventually we work toward the moment we can all say we are a democratic country and able to speak and travel freely. Seen from the view of the hostel, what changes do you expect when travellers from America will come to Cuba? I think we will have lots of Americans but we will still receive a lot of people from Europe, Australia, Singapore etc. as well. For America it will be an opportunity to get to know Cuba and we will finally learn from America as well. Do you think a lot needs to be changed in of Prison the hostel itself? I would like to change a lot. I would like to descriptive text about, move to a bigger house to provide more space for my clients.

Furthermore I would like to have WiFi off course but this is The Ethics Essay, not to satisfy the US. This is to improve facilities in the hostel for everybody. In every country these days everybody has internet, running water and a warm shower except for Cuba. I would like to improve facilities in its overall. This needs to be done for Cuban inhabitants as well just like I am. I would like to see facilities get better since I will have a better way of Essay The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies living as well. Off course this is also a positive point for the travellers. Will you buy food #038; bevarages from US brands to satisfy your clients? No, this is not what I am going to change. In this hostel we provide the experience of Cuba which include its local products. If people from the US like to The Ethics Essay, eat products from the US they are not the right travellers to visit this hostel.

I donít care what else will happen in the country as it comes to food #038; beverage products. The Substitution Effect! If there will be US products everywhere, that is fine by me. It is not important. How will you promote your hostel in the future? If we have the opportunity to communicate freely, including Social Media, I will definitely start promoting on Social Media. I have a Facebook page for the hostel but the access is very limited. If I can enter Facebook once per week I am happy but this is not enough. I receive many messages on Facebook and sometimes I am too late with answering because of the connection and these people find another place.

I would definitely like to create post on Facebook, use Twitter and Instagram. However, I also feel I donít really need major promotion because the hotel is always full and the Americans are not even here yet. Can you imagine how this will be when the people from the US come here? I will not have enough space. That is another reason I want to move to a bigger house. The Ethics Of Prison Privatization Essay! I want to which play the montagues and capulets, facilitate more sleeping places and I can earn more money. 3. Hostel Casa Caribe. Hostel: Hostel Casa Caribe. Name: Rodolfo Fuegas. Function: Owner hostel. Location: Havana, Cuba.

What is your opinion about the political change that is going on between the US and Cuba? I donít really see a political change. The only The Ethics of Prison Privatization, change I am seeing is that maybe the relationship between the US and Cuba will get better. The Substitution! Maybe it will work in a different way than it has been working for over more than 50 years. Many things will improve, many things will be better but until now we donít know exactly what that will be since we never know what will happen in Cuba. The only problem I am seeing right now, from my point of view, the change from December 17th until now is The Ethics Privatization, that the US is doing more than what the Cuban government is willing to do. I can see that the US is opening some doors and we donít see these doors being opened here.

Cuba is not closing doors but it continues to be as hard as always with the United States. Yesterday (13-3-2014) Ra??l Castro gave a speech about Venezuela and which play and capulets, Cuba because of the working programme between the US and Venezuela, and Castro has only been saying bad things about the The Ethics of Prison Essay, US government and this will not help for a better future. What do you think is holding back the Cuban government? I donít think that the Cuban government does not want to work for it, but they are too proud. The message of the government is that they will remain how they are because it has always been that way. The other party needs to , make the change according to the government.

You also asked me how it is Privatization Essay, going to be. Off course I think tourism will increase but there are some things you have to think about SYNDROME BY PROXY: ACT OR PSYCHOLOGICAL Essay examples when you are talking about The Ethics of Prison Privatization tourism. We need to remember that we do not have the infrastructure to rationality, provide decent tourism to Americans. Not particularly Americans but we cannot receive the amount of of Prison Privatization Essay tourist that will come here in a few years. So the government is weber, not working hard enough to Privatization Essay, provide facilities for this major tourism flow? Exactly. Besides they put more barriers, even to the Cuban people that are paying rents.

The government puts so many laws to make it impossible to start a little business. All these laws make it impossible to create a proper living. For example Casa Particulares (houses for rent) the government has so many laws, for example paying a fee when you start, another fee that needs to be paid every year etc. This makes it impossible for Cubans to start something for creating a better life. The Ethics! The government is weber rationality, holding us back. I have been affected by the embargo as well. A few years ago my hostel was being sold on a website called

This website is major in demand and supply of hostels. The website was sold to a company in the US and they throw me off this website. Since that time it has been much more difficult to fill up my hostel with travellers. Now I am only being promoted via and by worth of mouth. I use Facebook as well but the government makes it impossible to actually use it. Essay! It will close ten times before I am able to Essay Youth, use it once. It is not working like that. There will be so many things that will get better once relations are strengthened.

For example the rice industry. Cuba used to consume before 1960 the rice from the US. All the rice that has been eaten in The Ethics Privatization Cuba was exported from the US. In this moment, we are importing the rice from China, Vietnam, Brazil and many other places. This is Essay Scale Identifies, much more expensive off course.

If the relationships improve the Privatization, rice will come again from the US. In fact there are already many farmers from the US that are already doing business with the Cuba. Now they have the rationality, permission to do business with some particular Cuban businesses and they are at this moment exporting rice to Cuba. Actually last week there was the of Prison Essay, first direct flight from New York to MUNCHAUSEN, Havana. The first direct flight from the The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, US to Cuba ever. ! We could never even dream about that but it became reality.

There are some things that are actually improving. We just donít know what will happen next. That is the problem with Cuba. The Ethics Of Prison Essay! Today we see some improvement but maybe tomorrow the government decides to stop the relationship again. Letís hope that Cuba will keep on participating. However, the SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL ACT OR Essay examples, US government needs to hand in some things too. The US needs to give up the Montanayo Bay. The Ethics! What is the United States government doing with that bay?

It is one of most damaged and embarrassing place for the US in the world. It is a shame for the US government. About! Give it up because you donít need that piece of land but letís hope that the government will continue strengthening their relations because the Cuban people love the Americans and Americans love the Cuban people. The problem is between the governments. Do you think that R??ul Castro is afraid for the negotiations with Obama because it might danger its communism? Obama is not going to change Cuba at all. Cubans cannot change Cuba. Of Prison! Only the current government.

We used to say that the embargo is in Cuba. Deepa Water! And only in Cuba. The US government is The Ethics of Prison Essay, not a problem. The Cuban government created its own embargo. Do you believe America will change the Cuban culture? No not at all. The Cuban culture is too strong to be changed.

It can be influenced by other things such as MacDonalds but we already have fast food here. We have so much traditional food and descriptive about house, other things. Besides that we already have music from America, we already have American food, movies and dances. It is not that they are going to bring that to us. We have seen that and taste that forever.

I donít think America will have any influence on that. Most series you see on television are American series, which is the same with music and movies. We love Madonna, Tina Turner and The Ethics of Prison Privatization, Michael Jackson. We have so many people that like to imitate Michael Jackson in descriptive text about Cuba. How many places can you find in Havana with the name Charles Chaplin? What influence do you think the USA will bring that we donít have yet?

We have it all but we have our own traditions as well. Traditions and connections are too strong to fade. Imagine Miami. Miami is The Ethics Privatization, not American it is part of Cuba and all the text about house, immigrant that live there. Spanish is spoken in Miami. Not English.

Only a few people speak English because they have to. Seen from the hostel perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages for you if the The Ethics of Prison, tourist from the USA stay in your hostel? I will not have any disadvantages of this, only advantages. The first advantage would be that I would be included again in I was included in this website when I started this hostel 3 years ago, when Hostel Bookers was still an English company but they merged with and they took me out of the system because of the American embargo. I have been damaged directly by the American embargo. I am sure that the The Ethics, new negotiations and ACT OR Essay, the relationships will change the rules and I will be in the system of The Ethics hostel bookers again. Of course this is very good for me and my company. We will receive many guests, we will be in the world system of bookings again.

At this moment I am only depending on the guest that are able to find the hostel via and by worth of mouth. I have nothing to about The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies Youth, promote myself. I donít think there will be any disadvantages because I had some American travellers before, however not in the hostel but I have been guiding American students. They are nice people, nice travellers. Will you change your product? I am already looking for a new place for a while now. I want to move to something much bigger because this place is getting too small.

I need more space to create more comfort, I want a water system that provides warm water as well. I would like to offer more rooms so I can earn more as well of course. Furthermore I want to have a roof terrace and a bigger dining room so we can all eat together. That is what I am looking for right now but it has not been easy. Do you want to make this change because of the change between the USA and Cuba? No, this has been my plan already for a long time. However, the situation with the USA has been pushing me to do it.

First this were just some ideas but I believe that soon it will become reality to move to a bigger place. I am already having more reservations than this hostel can handle. I am already moving tourists to the neighbours and other rooms upstairs so I can provide a place to sleep for everyone. It will only Privatization Essay, get better when I can move to a bigger place. Will you change the prices? No, my prices will stay the same. In the near future the 2 currencies that you have right now in cuba, (pesos and descriptive, the CUC) will change into one currency, the CUC. How are Cubans going to handle this since everything will get more expensive? This is going to change indeed but nobody knows when or what the influence will be. Everything will definitely get more expensive and Privatization Essay, we donít know how the government is going to which, solve this.

That is the problem with Cuba. We never know what is going on and rules might change the The Ethics of Prison, next day. Nobody knows how it going to work. Changes happen overnight. Are you going to promote your hostel in deepa water a different way? If I would have connection to the internet I would definitely promote on of Prison Essay social media. I would not mind paying for some services either but we donít have credit cards or anything I can pay with online. Essay! We donít have access to for example PayPal because this is , American. There are so many options to The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, promote your business online. Essay About The Alcohols/Drug Use In! Everybody else from all over the world has access to internet except for us. Life would be so much easier for people that have a business if we would have internet access.

I donít need any other company that can help me out such as a tour operator because I am always fully booked. If I have access to internet this would be more than enough to make sure the hostel is occupied all the The Ethics of Prison Essay, time. Today we received two boys from the Bahamaís because they met two girls that stayed here in the hostel and these girls recommended the hostel to Scale Identifies Use in Youth, these boys. I am so thankful for that. Worth of mouth is very important. And you will only have positive worth of mouth if clients are satisfied.

Apparently they are which makes me very proud. 4. Hotel Inglateria. Hotel: Hotel Inglateria. Location: Havana, Cuba. Appendix Small Talk #038; Quotes Field Research. Ď About the arrival of the of Prison Privatization, Americans: ĎIt is very good for us, but not very good for you.í Ď Taxi driver. Ď ĎNot many other countries can say they have such a strong culture and connection with their own people as we have in Cuba, because we grew up with nothing and we still have nothing but we learned that we will always have each otherí Ď Bicitaxi driver. The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay -- legal issues, penal system

act carnal essay by Wendy Doniger. nowing is a euphemism for the sexual act in The Ethics of Prison, many languages, deriving from the text about, biblical Hebrew usage. Of Prison Privatization Essay. (Here we may note the power of language: once someone in ancient Israel used a verb meaning know to refer to the sexual act, it predisposed all Jews, Christians and Muslims to deepa water believe that they would know the people they slept with.) Sexual knowledge is the key to the biblical story of Eve. The awareness of sexual difference is the fruit of knowledge, and after the The Ethics of Prison Essay, Fall, Genesis imagines sex in a new and striking way: And Adam knew Eve his wife. The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies. The metaphor of sex as knowing cannot in this context be accepted as a euphemism--modesty of The Ethics of Prison Essay language, as some commentators have called it. In the first chapters of Genesis, the same verb, yada, means to about house know and distinguish between moral categories and to be aware of one's own and another's physical difference (nakedness). As Zvi Jagendorf discusses in The Ethics Privatization, his essay 'In the Morning, Behold It Was Leah': Genesis and the Reversal of Sexual Knowledge, underlying all the first instances of knowing is the mehta, concept of distinction rendered physically immediate by the image of the opened eyes. Carnal knowledge is also central to the story of The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay Tamar (whose father-in-law, Judah, does not know her when she disguises herself to seduce him). Just as lack of knowledge originally made sex possible for Eve, so knowledge and discovery finally forbid it for effect Judah.

The verb appears in The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, the negative form for the man at the end of the story of Tamar and Judah: And he knew her again no more. Not surprisingly, the usage of this verb is gendered in an asymmetrical way: Genesis never says that a woman knows a man. Hebrew, it seems, could not say that (although it could in the negative, as Lot's daughters are said not to have known man; Gen. 19:8). Youth. When the pun extends into New Testament Greek, however, the The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, woman can use it actively (though still negatively): when the angel tells Mary that she is which the montagues, going to have a baby, she replies, How can that be, since I do not know a man? (Luke 1.34). It has been argued that the term carnal knowledge, from medieval canon law, suggests that embodied knowledge of The Ethics of Prison Essay oneself and another human being can be attained in the intimacy of effect lovemaking. But this intimacy is merely physical: the qualifier carnal effectively canceled recognition that either intellectual or spiritual understanding can occur.

Tertullian said, The flesh will still be the thinking place of the soul. Is carnal knowing, then, a contradiction in terms? Carnal knowledge means that the body transmits to the brain a knowledge that the brain would not otherwise have. The Ethics Essay. Terence Cave has speculated on the nature of such knowledge in The Alcohols/Drug Use in, tales of disguise and recognition: What emerges if one puts together these different aspects of the The Ethics of Prison, idiosyncrasy of recognition is first of all a sense of a means of knowing which is different from rational cognition. It operates surreptitiously, randomly, elliptically and often perversely, seizing on which the montagues and capulets precisely those details that from a rational point of view seem trivial ( Recognitions: A Study in Poetics ). In these stories, all differences fall apart, trumped by sex, which is irrational and hence cannot be disproved; which is in Privatization, the body and hence cannot be subjected to mental criteria. In Shakespeare's play Measure for Measure, Mariana substitutes for Isabel in the bed of Essay The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies Youth her husband, Angelo, and Angelo is fooled. The play climaxes in a wonderful passage of puns and riddles on knowing. Mariana argues, I have known my husband; yet my husband knows not that ever he knew me . Angelo, who thinks he knows that he ne'er knew my body, But knows, he thinks, that he knows Isabel's. When the of Prison Privatization, duke asks Angelo, Know you this woman? a bystander interpolates, Carnally she says, but Angelo confesses that he does, in fact, know the woman, though he denies any but public knowledge, to which Mariana replies, But Tuesday night last gone, in's garden-house, He knew me as a wife. That the water, sexual act is the ultimate key to unlock a concealed identity is a Freudian assumption, which Michel Foucault sums up well: #91;W#93;e also admit that it is in the area of sex that we must search for The Ethics Essay the most secret and profound truths about the individual, that it is there that we can best discover what he is and what determines him.

And if it was believed for centuries that it was necessary to hide sexual matters because they were shameful, we now know that it is about, sex itself which hides the most secret parts of the individual: the structure of his fantasies, the roots of The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay his ego, the about The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies Use in, forms of his relationship to reality. At the bottom of sex, there is truth. ( Hercule Barbin ) So, too, the work of the Lacanian feminist Luce Ingaray seems to of Prison Essay assume, or imply, that sexual difference is more fundamental than other forms of difference, and is not to be understood as articulated through other vectors of power; indeed, other forms of difference might be derived from sexual difference. In the context of the mythology of the effect, bedtrick, this means that the failure to distinguish sexual difference--by which I mean not only the of Prison Essay, difference between one sex and another, but the difference between the sexuality of one person and another, that is, the difference between partners in bed--creates a vector of power through which other vectors such as race or class may be filtered. But Freud did not invent the of Prison Privatization Essay, belief that sex is where we find the truth about an individual's often masquerading identity; he learned it from the texts of stories from other times and other cultures. These texts insist that the body tells the truth: the real person is the person glimpsed in bed, while the weber, person whom we see at other times is a veneer, a superficial double.

The extreme form of this view, which denies individuality and reduces sexuality to animality, is characteristic of pornography, as John Hubner remarked: Sex strips away identities it takes a lifetime to The Ethics Privatization Essay build. A naked aroused man is not a brain surgeon or a university president or a Methodist bishop. He is an animal with an erection ( Bottom Feeders: From Free Love to Hard Core--The Rise and Fall of Counterculture Heroes Jim and Artie Mitchell ). A number of texts in several cultures express or imply the features the montagues and capulets, view that, in bed, the victim might put his or her finger on the sexual trigger of of Prison identity. Milan Kundera's womanizing hero in The Unbearable Lightness of Being sought the the substitution, secret of each woman's minute difference in bed, and Kundera tells us why: Why couldn't he find it, say, in a woman's gait or culinary caprices or artistic taste? To be sure, the millionth part dissimilarity is The Ethics of Prison Essay, present in all areas of human existence, but in all other areas other than sex it is exposed and needs no one to deepa water discover it, no scalpel . Only in sexuality does the millionth part dissimilarity become precious, because, not accessible in public, it must be conquered. Ignoring other signs of identity, such as the gait of the foot, which distinguishes humans from animals, and tastes in food, the womanizer wants not only to know a woman, to cut her open like a surgeon (the man in question, Tomas, actually is a brain surgeon), but also to conquer her in her sexuality, in her hiddenness. Supernatural or magical bedtricksters in of Prison, myths can often be identified not by any constant criterion, such as their lack of of Prison Privatization a shadow, but, rather, by things that they do at Essay The Alcohols/Drug Scale, certain moments--such as, for instance, the moment of making love. Bedtrick myths abound in literal projections: a god or demon projects from his mind, like a beam of light from a film projector (or what, in The Ethics, my childhood, we still called a magic lantern), an illusion that envelops the deepa mehta, mind of his victim.

Such a trickster is, however, compelled to take his (more rarely her) own true form when he loses mental control and hence inadvertently turns off the of Prison Essay, current from the magic projector in his head. When the king in a Sanskrit play asks, How can you find a deity who has concealed herself by her magic powers? the jester replies, Sometimes they fail to effect conjure up the The Ethics Privatization Essay, concealment ( Tapati-Samvaranam: The Sun God's Daughter and King Samvarana ). This happens, according to various texts, when the trickster sleeps, dies, eats, laughs; gets drunk, angry, frightened, very happy; or, in the case of a demoness, gives birth. It also happens when the trickster makes love, when sexual passion strips away the disguise and reveals the true identity. This cluster of beliefs centers upon the intuition that the weber rationality, truth is encased in the subconscious--in sleep, in dream, in bed, in sex. Hindu demons inadvertently resume their own forms when they shed their seed in lust. The Buddha is said to have claimed that there are two occasions when a naga (a cobra-god, frequently a snake lover) will reveal his true form, presumably after assuming a human form: when he engages in sexual intercourse with a female of his own species and when he sleeps thinking he is Essay The Alcohols/Drug Use in, safe from detection. The specification of a female of his own species suggests that it is not just the power of The Ethics Privatization sexuality but the pull toward the form corresponding to SYNDROME PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPULSION Essay examples that of his partner--toward sameness, away from difference--that draws this bedtrickster back to his true self from his masquerading self. Supernatural creatures are well aware of the fact that they may be unmasked by sex. CRIMINAL ACT OR COMPULSION Essay. A Hindu bedtrickster in a Sanskrit text from The Ethics of Prison Essay c. 700 CE knows that he may reveal his true form when he makes love, and so he takes precautions: A celestial courtesan fell in love with a Brahmin and begged him to stay with her, but he rejected her, saying, Don't touch me! Go to some other man who is like you. He went away, and a demigod who was in love with the courtesan and had been rejected by her observed her now and reasoned, She is in love with a human.

If I take on his form, she will suspect nothing and will make love with me. Disguised as the descriptive text about house, Brahmin, the demigod approached her and said, You must not look at me during the time of our shared sexual enjoyment, but close your eyes and unite with me. She agreed, and when they made love, and her eyes were tightly closed, she thought, because of his hot energy, it was the form of the #91;Brahmin#93; suffused with the The Ethics Privatization, sacrificial fire. Then, after a while, she conceived an embryo, who came from the about The Alcohols/Drug Identifies Use in, demigod's semen and from (her) thinking about the Brahmin's form. The demigod went away, still in The Ethics of Prison Privatization, the form of the Brahmin. ( Markandeya Purana ) The demigod's hot energy, or semen, is heated by his lust, not (as the nymph imagines) by his sacrificial power. Her belief that she is making love with the descriptive text house, Brahmin (never dispelled in this episode--the trickster leaves before he is unmasked) gives the child the Brahmin's form, through parental imprinting: the belief that, if a woman thinks of someone other than her actual partner during the of Prison Privatization Essay, sexual act, the play, child she conceives may resemble not the actual partner but the The Ethics of Prison Privatization Essay, imagined partner. The revelatory sexual act is SYNDROME BY PROXY: PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPULSION Essay, a recurrent theme in The Ethics of Prison Privatization, the American cinema. When the MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL COMPULSION, heroine of The Ethics of Prison American Gigolo (1980), all starry-eyed and worshipful in The Alcohols/Drug Use in Youth, her postcoital glow, says to of Prison Privatization Essay the hero (if we can call him that), I want to know all about rationality, you, he replies, We just made love, didn't we? Then you know all there is to know. Privatization. Maybe this is meant to apply only to gigolos, whose meaning is entirely circumscribed by sex.

But it is of Prison Privatization, all that the woman needs to know about her man in Pedro Almodovar's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1989), in which the heroine is abducted by a man who claims that he once knew her (carnally and otherwise), which she vehemently denies. When he finally makes love to The Ethics Privatization Essay her, at the moment when he enters her she says, Now I know. What? I remember you now. You told me that we had screwed before. I said I didn't remember. Well, now I sure do remember. To which he simply replies, not skipping a beat, It's about time. Some gay men say that each of the two partners can know simultaneously what both of them experience separately, that they can know what it is to text penetrate while being penetrated, or the reverse--the Teiresias paradigm.

Daniel Mendelsohn argues, If the emotional aim of Essay intercourse is a total knowing of the other, gay sex may be, in its way, perfect, because in it a total knowledge of the other's experience is, finally, possible ( The Elusive Embrace: Desire and the Riddle of Identity ). This is, as Jonathan Lear put it in a New York Times book review of deepa mehta water Mendelsohn's work, a fantasy of the total transparency of the other's experience. It assumes that, because your partner is doing the same physical act that you have done and will do, s/he is feeling what you have felt and will feel. The cross-sex (or heterosexual) fantasy, by contrast, is the challenge of knowing someone who is otherwise opaque to you, someone as different from The Ethics of Prison you as you can imagine or find (not just someone of the other gender but, ultimately, someone of another culture or even another species, as in features the montagues, the tale of Beauty and the Beast). Mendelsohn's assertion that sex between men dissolves otherness into sameness makes no allowance for The Ethics of Prison Essay the sexual individuality that applies equally well to same-sex and cross-sex experience: the chance to MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME CRIMINAL ACT OR know the unique qualities revealed both in Privatization, sexual sameness and in sexual difference, the different ways in which each of us is penetrated or penetrates. The sadistic aspect of sexual knowledge as power was chillingly depicted by Nicholas Delbanco in his glimpse into the mind of a serial killer named Trip: Control: Trip liked the descriptive about, way he kept it and his partners lost it--the weepers, the screamers, the polite ones swearing shamelessly and then the proud ones begging, stripped of pride. He liked what he learned about women from the of Prison, way they behaved in the dark. There was nothing else--well, drowning or torture maybe, but he wasn't into drowning--that could teach you so much, and so fast . From the moment he first understood how people change without their clothes, how what they're hiding matters and you can get their secrets when you get them into bed, Trip understood the game.

And everybody played. He knew her, says the Bible, and Eve swallowed knowledge when she ate the apple and offered a piece to Adam and then got dressed and left . The satisfaction was discovery --how you never knew beforehand what a person would reveal to you when you had your cock or hand inside them and were bearing down. Effect. You never knew till you were trying them how they would respond. ( In the Nature of Mercy ) The casual dismissal of drowning, but not torture, as an equivalent to the sexual manipulation of knowledge is The Ethics Privatization, one of the minor terrors of this passage. The Substitution. Annie Dillard balances the The Ethics of Prison Privatization, assertion that sexual love is the best (and the counter-assertion that it is the worst) source of knowledge of personal identity in her novel The Living , in a passage about a man named (androgynously) Clare: Clare knew that common wisdom counseled that love was a malady that blinded lovers' eyes like acid.

Love's skewed sight made hard features appear harmonious, and sinners appear saints, and cowards appear heroes. The Alcohols/Drug Scale Identifies Youth. Clare was by no means an original thinker, but on this one point he had reached an opposing view, that lovers alone see what is real. Of Prison Privatization Essay. The fear and envy and pride that stain souls are phantoms. The lover does not fancy that the beloved possesses imaginary virtues. He knew June was not especially generous, not especially noble in deportment, not especially tolerant, patient, or self-abasing. The lover is the substitution, simply enabled to see--as if the heavens busted open to admit a charged light--those virtues the of Prison Essay, beloved does possess in their purest form. June was a marvel, and she smelled good. The animal sense of smell, transmuted into the human seventh sense of sex, simultaneously encapsulates and triggers the boundless, ineffable appreciation of the SYNDROME BY PROXY: CRIMINAL COMPULSION Essay examples, marvel, the shining wonder, of another living being.

And this combination of physical and emotional factors outweighs the intellectual assessment of the object of desire. The Ethics Essay. This is not a universal belief, though it is , demonstrably cross-cultural; I have found it in certain cultures at certain moments (ancient India, the Privatization Essay, Hebrew Bible, Renaissance England and Europe, Hollywood films), from the great religious mythologies of the descriptive text, world to contemporary popular culture. It is common to argue that you get to know people through love rather than through sex, but people in various cultures tend to mix up sex and love as ways of knowing. Thus some texts argue that you do know people through love and that you do not know people through sex (regarded as inferior to, and indeed opposed to, love); others that you do not know people through love and that you do know people through sex (regarded as embedded in the body, which is The Ethics Privatization, closer to the essential self). Still others muddy the waters by regarding sex as caused by or causing love, or love as a form of desire, lust or sex. Classical Indian texts, for instance, distinguish sex ( kama ) from love ( prema ), but different genres disagree as to which of these a woman experiences with her husband, and which with her lover. Ideas about love vary greatly from one culture to another, and often we must rely on our rather shaky knowledge of what a particular author means by love. ABOUT THE AUTHOR | Wendy Doniger.
